Who we are

Explain Legal is a web-based tool for analyzing legal documents — contracts, leases, and Terms of Service. It surfaces red flags, financial exposure, and plain-English summaries. It is operated by Romain Loupias, based in Toulouse, France. Contact: romain.loupias@gmail.com

What data we collect

We collect only the minimum data required to operate the service:

• Stripe session ID — after a successful payment, Stripe redirects you to our thank-you page with a session ID in the URL. We store this ID in your browser's localStorage to confirm paid status. It never leaves your device to our servers.
• Usage count — the number of free analyses you have performed is stored locally in your browser (localStorage). We do not store this on our servers.
• Payment information — handled entirely by Stripe. We never see or store your credit card details.

What we do NOT collect

• We do not track your browsing history
• We do not store the content of pages you visit
• We do not sell your data to third parties
• We do not use your data for advertising

How we use your data

• To manage your free scan limit (tracked locally in your browser)
• To verify paid status via your Stripe session ID (stored locally in your browser)

Data storage

Your Stripe session ID and usage count are stored exclusively in your browser's localStorage — nothing is sent to or stored on our servers. Payment data is stored by Stripe.

Who we share it with — our subprocessors

We use the following third-party services to operate Explain Legal. Each only receives the minimum data needed to perform its function:

Data retention

Analysis results are cached for 24 hours to speed up repeat questions on the same document, then automatically deleted. We do not retain your uploaded document text beyond this window.

Cookies

Explain Legal does not use cookies or tracking pixels.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated via email to registered users.
