Common questions
Do I need an account?
No. Explain Legal works without any signup, login, or account. Just install the extension or open the app and go.
Is my contract data stored anywhere?
No. Your contract text is sent to Claude (Anthropic's AI) for analysis and immediately discarded. We don't store, log, or read your documents.
What file types does the desktop app support?
PDF files with selectable text. Scanned PDFs (image-only) are not supported yet as they require OCR processing.
What does the Chrome extension do exactly?
Highlight any legal text on any website, right-click, and choose "Analyze with Explain Legal." The extension explains the clause in plain English and flags any risks. It only activates when you ask it to — it never runs in the background.
Is this legal advice?
No. Explain Legal is a clarity tool, not a law firm. It helps you understand what contracts say — it does not replace professional legal counsel for important decisions.
How much does it cost?
The Chrome extension is free forever. The desktop app (full workflow) is free during the beta. A paid Pro plan is coming soon — current beta users will get early access.
